13 września 1994 - Snaefell mountain, Isle of Man. We saw the Snaefell Mountain Railway once before, in a photo taken at the station it shares with the Manx Electric Railway at Laxey. Here on the mountain summit, car 1 of 1895 waits to descend. The track gauge is 3 feet 6 inches and, yes, it’s a tram, having been built as an extension of the MER line. It isn’t a rack railway either, but a tramway worked by adhesion. The trams are very similar in design to MER cars, but still have the original Hopkinson bow current collectors, which were very soon replaced by trolleys on the MER.
