What's the current situation of Ikarbus? 1,5 years ago it has been announced that they were purchased by VDL, ambitious plans on manufacturing 250 buses for Belgrade were drawn... (http://www.smedia.rs/biznis/vest/16507/holandski-vdl-ikarbus-dragan-djilas-vozila-gsp-avtodal-Holandski-VDL-kupuje-Ikarbus.html) - but it seems it hasn't happened.
The privatization was stopped due to the problems between Neobus and VDL. A couple of years ago VDL and Neobus signed agreement, and Neobus started producing VDL Lexio buses. When the first buses where sent to EU, the VDL didn't want to pay anything to Neobus, because the buses where "filthy" and washing the bus costs them about 6000€ which is totally non-sense. However VDL tried to get all produced buses without paying thinking that that is Serbia, so "we can do anything we want". http://www.blic.rs/Vesti/Vojvodina/259147/Neobusu-VDL-duguje-900000-evra http://www.politika.rs/rubrike/Srbija/Holandjani-uzeli-a-nisu-platili-autobuse.lt.html Then, Neobus somehow kept a number of VDL Lexio buses and refused to sent them buses until VDL does not pay all costs to Neobus. VDL didn't expect that reaction. However, such bad politics of VDL to Serbia and Serbian workers and factories caused that privatization process of Ikarbus is stopped in this moment. They are looking for new owner, but of course it will not be VDL, and I hope so.
I see... thanks for detailed information! I hope that GSP will continue the long tradition of purchasing buses from the local company
In addition , one of the conditions of VDL is that GSP continue to buy their products. So, you maybe ask yourself where is the problem, GSP is always buying Ikarbus buses?! That is true, but certainly the price won't be the same. Now, articulated Ikarbus IK-218N Avancity with MAN engine is 150.000€ (Photo form Ikarbus http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq338/stefi1352/Ikarbus%20autobusi/Ikarbusik-218A-GSPBeograd-1.jpg), if VDL is owner i would be under 200.000€ i know. The reason why the Ikarbus is always choosen is that ther buses are the cheapest here! One of the problems could be that if the loan from EBRD for next supply of 400 buses would be approved, usually one of the conditions of this is to take buses from EU factory! So, once again the law of free market! :( :( :(
