It is powered by a Detroit Diesel 6V71N (V6 7 litre non-turbocharged). Wikipedia has a page on this engine at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Diesel_Series_71
650 ft·lbf @ 1400 rpm 238 hp (177 kW) governed at 2100 rpm
Hm, actually I expected something bigger Are engines in American buses generally stronger than in Canadian ones? I came across engines of 400 HP and 2100 Nm...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Diesel has links to various diesel engines. Most Canadian & US buses and cars are very similar. Back in the late 60s when I was working for Ford Canada we were putting 8 litre engines in passenger cars. The biggest I ever had was 5.8 litres in a 1973 and then a 1984 car. My 2008 Ford is only 3.5 litres.
http://cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php?title=GO_Transit#Bus is a listing of current GO Transit highway commuter buses. They range in hp from 275 to 410. The CPTDB has a lot of good reference material on North American buses.
Do you particulary like any of them? These MCI D4500CT have got really impressive engine's power!
To tell the truth, the last time I rode a bus was in August 2008, in Ottawa, when I was on vacation.
