31 maja 2006 - Daugavpils (LV) – depot/zajezdnia. The nearest thing you will find to an authentic Russian tramway in Western Europe is in Daugavpils, a largely Russian-speaking industrial city near the Belarus border. The system has a rather ‘primitive feel and some of the trams are Russian-built. These RVZ-6 cars were constructed in Riga, though, and this is now the only place you can still see them working, I think. They run on Russian broad gauge track, of course.

31 maja 2006 - Daugavpils (LV) – 18 Novembra iela. The driving cab of an RVZ-6 tram – very basic controls, and all instructions in Cyrillic. Quite nice to drive, but you must remember, when reaching a junction in the overhead wires, that the trolley pole is on the second tram of a two-car set, so a very long way back from where you are driving.

31 maja 2006 - Latvia, Daugavpils - Ventspils iela: Two of the iconic RVZ-6 trams that made up over half the fleet until quite recently. This city was, until 1994, the nearest thing to an authentic Russian tramway to be seen to the west of the Iron Curtain, running Russian-type trams on the Russian track gauge in a largely Russian speaking city not far from the Russian border. These particular trams were built nearby in Riga - they did not normally run in multiple in normal service but this is a special trip for enthusiasts. As you can see, the weather was a bit Russian, too.

31 maja 2006 - Latvia, Daugavpils - Ventspils iela: Three of the operator`s RVZ-6 trams together at the corner of this interesting street, which has a number of traditional little Latvian wooden houses. The Daugavpils tramway is a very interesting little system and in normal service runs three separate routes around the city, several of which have long sections of single track. In recent years, they have started to replace these old trams and various second-hand Tatras with brand new vehicles.

7 kwietnia 2014 - Daugavpils, Valkas iela. Klimatyczna parterowa zabudowa, rupieciowate RWZ (tu w składzie) - warto tu przyjechać ;)
